with the british key (Drake), I nicely land at Notiphila guttiventris.
However, according to GBIF that is a synonym of riparia.
The key, however, distinguishes the two species - so now I am in doubt

GBIF's placement of guttiventris as a synonym of riparia is based on a paper by Dahl (1959). Later papers (including Mathis and Zatwarnicki's Check List) restored guttiventris to full specific status.

Thanks Tony, that this could be resolved. Currently there aren't active identifiers of Ephydridae in this forum, it seems.

I try to ID ephydrids when I'm confident, but Notiphila can be tricky at times.
