Hello, dipterists
I'm trying to identify nematocera larvae found ex Polyporus squamosus, today june 11th 2026 in Wallonia (Belgium)
I think Brachypeza radiata as I'm sure that the fungus is Polyporus squamosus

How can I make the difference between Brachypeza radiata and other mycetophilinae larvae ?
Madwar 1977 is the best reference ?
Thanks
Izmi

Hello
Around 6 PM, the larva leaves the Polyporus squamosus fungus and catapults itself into the soil to bury itself and begin pupation.

Typical behavior of Mycetophila cingulum.
Detailed images of the larva and video of the jump will be posted here soon.
