Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Identified Empis sp. (eaten by spider)

I though this was a Xyloma maculata but then I looked at the gallery and the patterns in the thorax don't match. Is it really a Xylomyidae?

Should be genus Empis, but not tessellata with those red legs i think?

Aha! I just saw Empis opaca in the gallery... very close match.

Well, this one (or maybe its cousin...) had a sad end when meeting a Xysticus spider hiding inside a flower...
