Is t possible to ID this fly? SW England on 02/05/2025.

Hi James, that fly looks very interesting and could be a Helina, but I could not use the key due to missing characteristics. To exclude Mydaea: do the original photos show setulae dorsally on the radial node? Maybe it helps to add "Helina?" to the title?

Thanks for your reply.

I can't see setulae on the originals but this may not be conclusive as the ISO-rating is 1600 and tiny details may not be visible.

As far as Helina is concerned, the cross vein r-m does seem to be noticeably darker and more like Helina.

Thanks Eric, that would be very special here. The species was added to the UK list fairly recently and there are only a couple of records so far. I don't think my photos show all the details necessary for a positive ID.
