Hi together,
I photographed this fly yesterday in a garden in southwestern Germany. I estimate its size to be about 8 mm. Is this a species of the family Anthomyiidae?

Thank you very much for pointing out
Botanophila fugax. Since you phrased this as a question, I don’t assume this is a definitive identification. Based on a comparison of the images, it would be a very good match. However, there are likely many similar species in this family. It is probably not possible to identify the specific species.
Greetings Siggi

You're welcome. Yeah, I ended with a question mark because, as you say, this is a complicated family and I'm a rookie, so I just suggested what your specimen reminds me and could possibly match but of course I'm far to be 100% sure and was expecting for someone else more qualified to answer to your request... Be patient, maybe someone will give another opinion more reliable...
Cheers.
