Hello,
I photographed this fly in the Gennargentu Mountains, Sardinia (NU), Italy, 1690m a.s.l. on May 13th 2025. I think it is a Tachinidae, but is it possible to identify its genus or species based on these photos?
Thank you in advance,
Emanuele

I am not sure, but this female resembles a
Stomina tachinoides (vibrissa high above the mouth edge, densely dusted and tergites 3 & 4 with a pair of dark spots). It's in the checklist for Sardegna.

Check out pics of Stomina, it has a projecting mouth margin, hence the NAME.
Also, note the strong erect apical scutellars. All points to Meigenia. Given the very hairy eye, it should be M. majuscula then.
I have no experience with this species.

Thank you both very much!
Meigenia was one of the genera I was considering alongside
Bithia, but I didn't have time to check carefully.
