It's a male Pollenia - black basicosta and narrow frons, could be
Pollenia labialis

Thanks Eric, I have a specimen in the freezer that I think is the same, anything special I should look for?

Yes Gordon: a sharp photo of the posterior spiracle - the lappets of P. labialis are dark brown.
