Hello Forum,

one more fly from the alder marshland in Hagen (D) 175 m above sea level. This photo I took on May 17th 2007. The plant in the background is Urtica dioica.

It is a Tilupidae specimen, I think. Is it possible to get a closer ID?

Best wishes to all helping

Josef

Tipula sp. This should be easy for the knowledgable person.

Probably Tipula fulvipennis: large with clouded wings (grey in males, brown in females) and that little dark spot in the middle of the wing are characteristic of this species in Britain. But the usual doubts apply, that maybe you have other similar species in mainland Europe.
