Found in the S.F. Botanic Garden on 20th July 2023. Maybe a male
Cochliomyia macellaria OR is it
Compsomyiops callipes?

Thanks for that John. I did see the key being mentioned on a lot of posts in BugGuide but I still couldn't make up my mind which one it was, as hard to tell now as it was back in 2011 apparently ;):D
