Hi,
Another fly from Usedom, sunbathing on the small
Salix tree in August. The colour recalls
Musca domestica, but some details do not match (m-vein too straight?). So I would like to ask you for help.
Thanks, Sundew

Musca autumnalis - reddish abdomen. and frontalia points to autumnalis, right Tony?

Sounds good - the wing venation matches the pic in the fine compilation of muscid wing venation types under
http://popgen.uni...idae2.html. I suppose we are on the right track!

In
domestica, the male abdomen is not so red and the eyes are set slightly further apart (see
http://www.dipter...to_id=2612 ). A red-abdomened
Musca sunbathing on a leaf in August in Northern Europe will be a male
autumnalis. :)

That settles the matter! Many thanks indeed,
