Six species in two genera are known from Spain: the
Prosimulium hirtipes species group (4 species) and
Urosimulium (2 species). All of them are recorded from south-central Spain (Madrid to the south coast).

Thanks a lot John!!
I guess the genus determination is difficult and it needs other kind of images. I have not found any key about Simulidae in Spain, apart from those of medical interest.

If you have a specimen under a microscope the form of the claws is likely to be different between the two genera. Claws can be simple, simple with a small "subbasal tooth", or forked with a basal "thumblike lobe". The last kind is found in species that feed on birds, and is better adapted to grasping feathers.
