Northern Germany, Schleswig-Holstein, Pinneberg-Waldenau near Hamburg, mixed forest
Klövensteen, in a hole of an old sawed off trunk (pinetree), filled up with (rain)water, length of the larva: I think about 35 mm, moving all the time and never lost the connection to the air; 12th of April 2022. Outsidephotos: kuv.
ID possible?

I would say Syrphidae larvae but this is unknown to me. If i look in Graham Rotheray's key...Colour guide on hoverfly larvae I see some resemblance with Tropidia, with these obvious lateral lobes at the tail, but genus not sure

Sphegina ?? with a shortish posterior breathing tube with 3 pairs of lappets at the base

Sphegina also came to mind, so that is definitely als a good possibility.

Thank you very much Atylotus :) and Iain :) for your answers. I 'll keep "Syrphidae" and "Sphegina" in my mind in order to find perhaps more details ...
