Hi, I know it is a long-shot but can anyone put a name to this ichneumonine, caught a few days ago in southern England? :) My best guess was an
Ichneumon sp. or
Amblyteles sp. but it's just a guess.

Hi Chris,
The problem with Ichneumonidae is the endless list of lookalikes and variations, as well as the shortlist of specialists. I'm trying to make ends meet by selfstudying and comparing pictures on the internet with my own. It's a neverending story, I fear. :(
Looking at your pictures I don't think it's Amblyteles (only one species in Western Europe: A. armatorius, which has more yellow on legs and abdomen). I think it's one of the many Ichneumon species. But I can't rule out Diphyus or Dusona species.
Anyway, "Ichneumonidae sp." is as far as I would go. Maybe "Ichneumon sp." but only because it's so very frustrating having to include 40 or more other species.:D

Thanks anyway - I have the old keys to British Ichneumoninae so I might try them again this Christmas holidays :) At least you have confirmed that it isn't a cryptine or banchine :)

Valemberg thinks it is Limerodops subsericans Ichneumonidae Ichneumoninae Amblypygi!;)

Camille, let us know where you will put that Ichneumon gallery. It would be nice to see a list of definitive characters for each photo.. (if it is possible).
Merci beaucoup!

On my site later, impossible to mention the characters!
If I put only one part of description, that will induce in error!
Certain entomologists act thus, I do not give a name, they are often mistaken when they announce a family because they choose only one small whole of characters! :(
