Hi,
I found this beuatiful fly close to a small brook. In the outskirts of Hamburg. There are also some rather sandy grasslands and some hedge rows and Alder trees close to the creek. (30.7.2021).
It looks like Therevidae to me. Is it possible to identify this species?

Hi, I did some research on my own, and I think this might be Cliorismia rustica. Can this be confirmed?

I think Cliorismia female is correct. I think this is C. ardea rather than rustica, but I could be wrong.

Thanks Xespok! I wasn't aware of this similar species, so I looked for some regional checklists and found one for lower saxony, which is reasonably close to Hamburg. It seems There are just Cliorismia rustica found there with one mentioning of C. ardea from 1931 which is thought to be due to the fact that the two species hadn't been distinguished by the author. The only key feature to distinguish the two, I found so far (quick search) is for males only. Overall the species seems to be rare. There are also just few records of C. rustica in this region. I'll keep it as C. rustica with a mark for possibility of C. ardea.
