Hi,
recently in the italian forum FNM was submitted the following post:
https://www.natur..._ID=334517
in my opinion it could be Rhagio cingulatus, but I am far from an expert, I simply tried to apply Van Veen keys which, by the way, are not for the Italian fauna.

Rhagio sp for sure, this is an alpine species. Indeed R. cingulata is the most likely, maybe Theo Zeegers can confirm it. I saw a similar snipe fly in Austria, but could not take a photo.

Here are the photos. They were shot by Andrea Solari on jul 16, 2021 in Lizzola (BG), northern Italy, at 1300 meters asl.

So, this is interesting. It is too dark for cingulatus. Moreover, please note it is a male (!) with dichoptic eyes. A feature of big importance, as we know from Rh. atlanticus. It agrees generally very well with the dwscription of Rh. rondanii Bezzi, whcih I only know from description. Bezzi’s types are not accessible. The leg colouration is slightly off, but very variable in many Rhagio species.

So, for now, it is Rhagio (cf.) rondanii.

Please submit for the gallery as such !

Ah, apparently the type was in Budapest, in which case it is certainly lost.

Please also upload this to inaturalist.org! I think this is the first image of this rare species.
