Hello,
fortunately this large fly (~25 mm or even more) did not want my blood. It peacefully rested on a Blackberry leaf in our courtyard today (northwest Germany).
Tabanus sudeticus or maybe
autumnalis?

Juergen, it is T. autumnalis. Females has no red on terga, which sudeticus and bovinus have.
