We've been playing around with a stinky protist, and wondering if it's stink served any purpose.
So we set out a rigged scent trap and got a single fly species investigating it. I live surrounded by farm land (animals) Franco-suisse border (Geneva-area). There are lots of types of flies in the area.
This species was smaller than a typical housefly and larger than a Drosophila. It looks a lot like a Muscoidea to us. My guess is that maybe it is some sort of Fannia sp. I had my friend snap some macrophotos. Sorry for the bacteria on the eyes. I was wondering if anyone maybe able to offer a more definitive ID.

I would say Anthomyiidae, but difficult to be sure.

Thanks I'd prefer it to hang out of vegetable roots than latrines at least, in terms of where to sample
