Anyone able to help me determine if this is E.aemula or E.stercorea?
I found the following :
-----
Shamshek's Revision of Empis :
E.aemula :
Female: fore and often also hind tibiae with 1 or 2 small black bristles above.
E.stercorea :
Female: fore and hind tibiae with uniformly small hairs, without small dorsal bristles.
-----
Mike Hackston's key (based on Collins),
E.aemula :
Female difficult to distinguish but usually larger and darker (7-9.5 mm.); dark pubescence on abdomen apparently more extensive; front and hind tibiae with 1-2 small but distinct bristles above; tarsi blacker.
E.stercorea :
"Female smaller (5.5-8mm.) with front and hind tibiae with no distinct bristles above."
------
Curious what these "distinct bristles above" look like and whether they are or are not visible on this one.
Many thanks!
Sam
