Can anyone identify this fly? I believe it belongs to Calliphoridae (perhaps Chrysomya sp. if I compare it to the pictures in the Gallery).
Location: Moshi (northeastern Tanzania)

Thanks, Paul. I tried to use the key provided by Irish et al. (2014) on adults of Aftrotropical
Chrysomya species and landed on
C. albiceps. Not sure if this can be confirmed or if the picture is not detailed enough to tell?

The dark transverse band on thorax disagrees. This suggests putoria. That said, I am not 100 % sure this is Chrysomyia, given the projecting mouth margin. I would suggest to investigate Cochliomyia as well.

Which species of
Cochliomyia are in Africa? This fly is not
C. macellaria or
C. hominivorax, which have longitudinal stripes on the thorax. I do not know about the other species.

Me niether. I did not claim it to be Cochliomyia, I suggested it to be investiged. Your fly is not the European Chrysomyia albiceps, of that I am sure.
Cochliomyia occurs in Sahara / Sahel (originally introduced in Lybia and eventually reaching Iraq and beyond ?) but Tanzania is still a long way to go.
