I'd call Trypetoptera widespread and quite common, at least in wet boreal forests. Unlike most other sciomyzids it is not exclusively a shore species, although it can be found on shores. It is perhaps seldom photographed because it lives on shaded habitats and it is seldom seen on flowers or upper leaves of plants.

E. chaerophylli is in my experience very local, but once you find it you'll see more than one specimen.
