Hi, my name is Federico, thanks for accepting me in this community!

Here i have some interesting photos of a Tachinidae camouflaged over some Parmelia lichens. I couldn’t identificate it properly. I consulted some people, and initially they leaned to Compsilura concinnata, but then the lack of hairs over the eyes made them exclude this ID.

The photos were made in Nasseto, Romagna Appennines, Italy (about 800 m asl) the 20th of August 2020. The specimen was around 1 cm in body lenght.

Thanks for any help!

Buona sera Federico and welcome to Diptera.info! A very nice fly! I think it is Billaea maritima.

Greetings, Eric

It is indeed a very beautiful species of Billaea, I am not familiar with this species.
So I'd go for Elkans ID.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
