Hi!

I seem to get lost in the keys with this one. Distinct brown spots on abdomen which may not be obvious in the picture. Any help is appreciated. SW Sweden august 6.

Thanks Paul!

I wonder where I go wrong in the keys then. Do you have any idea which species are possible here or what I need to look at that is not visible here?

Regards/ Ola

One thing I notice is grey front femura and the rest yellow. Maybe that isn’t something to go on but I have difficulty finding that combination in Coenosia species?

Ola, do not waste your time and patience on identification of females Coenosia. Wait for male(s) at least.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
