Would it be possible to differentiate between B. femoratus and B. johannis? Found this week in S Poland.

Hmmm ... looks like a Dilophus to me. Bibio are not this early in spring (in Central Europe), but D. humeralis is !

Thank you for your help. So you say that this is D. humeralis, yes?
As for the phenology I have found many Bibio in March before...

I think it is a Bibio. A strong spur is visible on the right front tibia, the thorax does not have a row of spines, and r-m is not much longer than the base of Rs.

I guess John is right. The thorns on front left tibia in the first pic are actually micas in the stone behind the leg.
I would not dare to mention a species.

And yes, many Bibio can be seen in march, but not in the first decade. But after this non-winter, many species are very early.

Basitarus of hind leg is swollen and dark only at tip, and the time is right.
