They were reared from beech and oak deadwood branches in emergence traps in Basel Switzerland.

Could this 1.8 mm long Phorid be part of the Genus Metopina ? Are they mycetophagous, saprophagous or zoopahgous? Edited by SandroM on 13-02-2020 14:10 |

Hello SandroM, With such a bad photo the genus is impossible to determine. Phoridae is a large Diptera family with one of the most diverse life habits. They are phytophagous, zoophagous, mycetophagous, (endo and ecto) parasitic, saprophagous and some more probably... Kind regards, Ectemnius |

Are these pictures any better? To deduce perhaps the genus and thus their larval life habitat? Could they be Metopina species? |

I do not think Metopina but if you manage to get a proper picture of the wing venation that can be confirmed.
