Northern Germany, Schleswig-Holstein, Pinneberg-Waldenau near Hamburg, at the edge of the mixed forest Klövensteen, at a metallic railing under big oaks and pine trees; Outsidephotos: kuv, 7th of June 2019. To me it looks like belonging to Eustalomyia or nearby. Please help to get the ID.

Thank you very much John Smile. Perhaps Johanna can say more to the ID of that fly.

And thanks to Jürgen for your statement.

Greetings Kuv

It is Eustalomyia histrio or E. festiva. The differences are the number of av setae on the hind tibia and the length of hairing of the arista. I'm afraid I can't see them both on the photos.
Best wishes, Niels-Jan Dek

Thank you very much Niels-Jan Smile.
But it's a pity, as you say the differences you told are not seen (and I have no more pictures).
Greetings Kuv

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
