Hello everyone,
I have observed this Tipula and I need your help to identify it, if possible from pictures.
My first hypotesis was T. pagana, but some friends pointed out it is more likely T. berteii.
Could you please help me out and explain how it can be discerned as one instead of the other?
Thanks!Wink

Forgot to mention: Tipula was observed in Vaglio Serra AT Italy, on 21/11/2019, resting on some grass.

T.pagana is not known from Italy and has longer wings. It is most likely Tipula (Pterelachisus) berteii (Rondani, 1842)
Best regards,
Carlo

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
