Hello,
On October 03, 2019 in the south of France, on ivy.
I know it is difficult to distinguish the Gymnosoma but perhaps it will be possible to get to the species with these photos.
Thank you for your suggestions.

It is a female nudifrons or costatum.

Indication of size ? (4 mm. or 7 mm.) ?

Thank you very much Theo,
I did a calculation with the ivy flowers, Gymnosoma measures between 6 and 7 mm

OK, that is ‘definitely’ nudifrons.

Between quote’s, because nothing is definite in Gymnosoma.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
