Hello,
In the south of France, on May 02, 2018.
A red beard may indicate Calliphora vomitoria
but the spiracle is orange like Calliphora vicina
Is it another species?

Hello Liliane D,

a female Calliphora vomitoria as prey of Synema globosum (Thomisidae)

the anterior thoracic spiracle is usually infuscated (Rognes).

I think that light can alter the appearance of the infuscation.
see my attachment of microscopic differences based upon angle and lighting.

Best wishes,
John

Thank you very much John,
Lighting is indeed sometimes misleading.
Best wishes,
Liliane

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
