Hi,

I keyed this specimen to Estheria microcera, but I'm not sure. I read that this species has 3+4 DC, but I only count 3+3 DC.

Indeed it was in the step that separates E. cristata from the other species that my doubts arouse. According to the key E. cristata has 4 bristles on the postpronotum, with the three strongest arranged in a more or less straight line. In my specimen I count 5 bristles, and I'm not sure if I should consider that the strongest are in a straight line or not, it seems somewhat intermediate. But because of the 5 bristles on the postpronotum I continued in the key and reached E. microcera.

I see your point. It is, indeed, not cristata.
From what I can see, I agree with microcera.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
