Hi,
I am struggling to ID this specimen. It is rather large, in the upper range of D. immigrans or D. hydei. There are no darkened wing veins. Found end of June in Vienna.

All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated.

My Diptera observations (and other living forms) can be found here, and corrections or comments over there would also be appreciated.

You will get further if you try to identify it as a species of the Minettia fasciata species group (Lauxaniidae). Wink

Oh no, the plumose antennae were falsely telling me to not look further than Drosophilids... Shock

With these further images, is a species ID possible? The palps appear to be dark with a yellowish base.

One of the images shows a long seta at the base of the surstyli so it is fasciata. None of other external characters (colour of palpi and mesonotum) are entirely conclusive.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
