Hi,
that early in the year (mid March) I guess there only one likely species, but I saw here records of other early Bibio-species, so I just wanted to be safe. Found in a park in Vienna.

All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated.

My Diptera observations (and other living forms) can be found here, and corrections or comments over there would also be appreciated.

Johannis is a week earlier than other common species, like lanigerus.
This one does look like johannis, though there seems to be a few white hairs on tergites , but only just a few.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
