Hi,

I determined this specimen as H. confusa, but I am not entirely sure of the genus. Found in a forest near Vienna.
Last image shows the mid-tibia.

All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated.

My Diptera observations (and other living forms) can be found here, and corrections or comments over there would also be appreciated.

You are probably right. Narrow wings with C-index approaching 4.0 and whole tip of male abdomen dark (in otherwise pale fly) indicate H. confusa.

Thanks, Jan.
I guess, if the genus Hirtodrosophila is safe, than it can only be H. confusa, because of the ventral branches of the arista. But I was not sure if this is without doubt genus Hirtodrosphila.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
