Hello,
I found this fly in Germany, Saxony in a park near a small river in October. Is the fly a Hydrophoria linogrisea or belongs it to another species?
Thanks, Marion

Thank you very much for ID, Nikita.
I searched for the two species in the gallery and the forum and found this comment:

Fore femur infuscated = H.vagans
Fore femur clear yellow = H. nigrimana
I could not find a translation for infuscated, but think it means something like darkened.
I have an old picture from a fly identified as Hylemya vagans which has darker, greyish looking fore femora.
Compared to that one all femora of this fly have a yellowish coloration.
Is it possible to exclude H. vagans?

Marion

Here is the picture from H. vagans

No, Marion, the characters you mentioned work for males, but not for females.
See M. Ackland's key below:

Acrostichal setal rows close together, between them no fine setulae. T3 without a pv apical 2
2 Legs not completely black, at least tibia (especially mid and hind tibia) clear yellow or orange 3
Legs completely black or at most t3 obscurely and partly transparent brownish orange when viewed in certain directions 4
3 All femora black at least in basal two-thirds, only tibiae yellow or orange vagans Pz.
Only fore femora black, mid and hind femora yellow or orange as are tibiae nigrimana Mg.
4 Surstylus long and slender, apices slender and curved backwards. T3 entirely black variata Fall.
Surstylus short, widened at apices, curved forwards. T3 often obscurely orange-brown. urbica Wulp

HYLEMYA

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
