Hello,

I live in southwestern France. I found several of this little fly on decaying leaves of Zantedeschia aethiopica and Alocasia macrorrhiza. The size was about 3 mm. They were flicking their wings all the time as they quickly walked on or near the leaves (might be just because of the cold ?).

Could they be of this group: obscura ?

Cannot see enough detail to confirm species, but it is in the group with obscura and subsobscura

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
