Hi,

I think this small diptera (2-3mm) could be a Chironominae from its general outlook.
Is it correct. Any idea of the genus?
Thanks for your help,

Probably Orthocladiinae. The front legs are too short for Chironominae and most Chironominae have larger eyes.

Chironominae usually fly during warm weather. Winter Chironomidae are mostly Orthcladiinae and Diamesinae.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
