Hi Natalija & Tony,

It looks like, but actually is a Chloropidae. The wide frons and relatively large scutellum with short, stout black bristles at the edge point to this. I don't know the genus, but many times I've found this chloropid in a smaple and thought: Hey, Madiza. Only to be disappointed to find it is actually a Chlorpoidae…

Greetings,

Ectemnius

Yes, I was too hasty with Madiza - this fly is not "glabra" enough! Presumably this is near Siphonella/Calamoncosis - I'm not sure that it's possible to distinguish them from these photos?

Thank you both Smile
Unfortunately I don't have any more detailed shot.
Best wishes from Slovenia,
Natalija

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
