Hi,
these guys were constantly molesting a Meloe-beetle in early May in the Danube wetlands near Vienna. Maybe Atrichopogon with species ID possible?

All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated.

My Diptera observations (and other living forms) can be found here, and corrections or comments over there would also be appreciated.

Based on behavior, probably Atrichopogon (Meloehelea).

Thank you John.
I find the legs quite pale, so I wonder if the species can be addressed as A. oedemerarum, whereas A. meloesugans is described as having dark legs: http://pte.au.poz...i_i_in.pdf

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
