Hello I used the Fonseca key on this specimen, and was relatively easy guided to the Hercostomus nanus. Never seen this specie before, and it is not commonly found in Denmark - or it is not identified that often?! - so I double checked in Grichanov key. Here I come to point 52, where suddenly germanus is an option, based on the coloration of the tibia. The wings on my specimen was all curled up, so I have cut them out and moistened them. Terms "almost parallel" and "distinctly convergent" about R4+5 and M1+2 There are plenty of pictures of germanus, and they all seem to have the distinct pv seta on front tibia - my specimen do not have this. But not many pictures of nanus. Is this H. nanus? Or germanus? Or something completely different, because of some other mistake I've made in the key? I see pv seta on front tibia. Why not germanus? A male wold be better for ID.

You are absolutely right, I must have gone blind ;-) Dont know why I missed that seta, I was certain none were there. Just a small bit of wrong angle, and it disappears from view. Thank you very much, germanus it is! |
