In spring (april) I found this Ptychoptera species in the dune area of the Netherlands, at first I thought it was P. lacustris but than Niels-Jan Dek came with the suggestion of a dark form of P. albimana which also seems possible... Any thougths here on which species this might be?

It is a pity that we have no good view of the wings. According to the key by Stubbs (https://core.ac.u.../60428.pdf), P. lacustris should have intense black markings (see also http://drawwing.o...stris-wing), and Stubbs' drawing of the genitals is also different. So no P. lacustris, but what? The genitals of P. albimana also don't match well. Those of P. paludosa, with outer knobs on the styles, look a little bit better, but this species is also said to have dark wing markings and a black abdomen. So here I am at my wits's end - sorry...

I just found a picture of a male P. albimana in my collection and see that the structures I interpreted as "outer knobs of the styles" are in fact located outside the styles. So there is not much difference between our males, and Niels-Jan might be right.

Looks good indeed! The dark markings should be visible on my pictures I recon (if they were present). Thanks for the help!

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
