Should be a male Eristalis (Eristalis) sp., given the closed R1 cell and sinuous R4+5 vein, among other things. The primary character to distinguish from Palpada is not visible here, but it looks very similar to some of the Eristalis (Eristalis) sp. we have in NA.

Hello,

there is no Palpada in Germany. This is Eristalis arbustorum or the rare E. abusiva. They differ in the feathering of the arista, not visible here.

P.S.: Should have been placed in the Syrphidae section of this forum.
Best regards,
Jürgen

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
