In Britain this would be Sciara hemerobioides. I don't know if there are similar species in Russia with which it could be confused.

Tony, thank you. I thought about Sciaria analis, there are many images of this species in the net, and my flyes looks similar. What is the difference, may I ask?

It appears that it may be possible to separate Sciara analis and S. hemerobioides as females. (Usually it's a case of examining the male genitalia.) Apparently the sixth antennal segment is shorter in analis (length= 2x width; in hemerobioides length= 3x width). So I would say that your specimen is analis. Someone more familiar with the Eastern European fauna may correct me! Wink

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
