Flensburg, N.Germany, 15.45pm 19th August 2018.
Many small (2mm body) black flies - at the edge of the water - in my bird-bath - in my vegetable garden.
Some were walking on the water, others were mating.
On the following days I only noticed 2 or 3 around the water.

Thanks in advance
Ray

Hi Ray Perry,

The wing venation suggests Sphaeroceridae; Limosininae.
Looking at the behaviour and the dusting; possibly Pseudocolinella sp.

Regards,

Ectemnius

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
