Protocalliphora. I think that it is most likely P. azurea

just to clarify: I really think that this is P. azurea but you only have one photo posted. A female P. azurea usually bears a greenish thorax and abdomen. However, the abdomen can appear to be blue in lateral view such as that depicted in your photo. I've attached a photo to illustrate my point. We can usually detect the greenish color through the hyaline wings. I think that i see a greenish color through the wings but it is not conclusive. I highly doubt this fly could be anything other than azurea. I am just bothered by the intensity of blue on the abdomen and the dark lower calypter. P. azurea can have infuscated calypters but this one seems dark. Have you strengthened the contrast of the photo?

I actually lightened the photo overall, it was too contrasting originally, shot pretty much against the sun.
I only saw the fly in lateral view, it escaped before I could make a shot from another angle or catch it Sad
But the abdomen did look more blue than the thorax in life! And eyes were bright red, which caught my attention in the first place.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
