Hello Michael, this is not a Tabanidae sp, it is a Therevidae sp.

Hello Michael, I agree with Thereva but we need an expert opnion about a species. i have experience only with Thereva nobilitata but i forget the details. I do remember that a bristle should be present somewhere on the thorax, which we cannot see in these photos. I am not qualified to suggest a species here. You should wait to see if someone can help you. I suggest we leave it at Thereva sp. for now.

It is Thereva and not nobilitata. More likely plebeja.
