Hi,

with the black ocellar triange, is this a member of Chloropidae?
Size is about 3mm. Vienna, mid of May

I think Chyromyidae -- they have colorful eyes.

Yes, this should be a Chyromyidae.
I added one more pic from the scutellum. Are the smaller bristles indicating genus Chyromya?

Best,
Lorin

Hi Carnifex,

Yes it is a Chyromya. Species C. femorellum/flava. the true identity of these two species is still unclear...

Kind regards,

Ectemnius

Oops, too quick. I only looked at the tarsae. But third antennal segment is clearly darkened. So this is Chyromya oppidana!

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
