I was sure this is Lucilia sp. but wings venation seems off. I'll post wing crop next post. Russia, May 20. Vlad Bombus attached the following image: [282.7Kb] Edited by Vlad Bombus on 20-05-2018 23:51 |

Thank you. According to my fly identification book, Gymnocheta viridis is the only opinion then, although I won't rush things since maybe there are some similar species I'm no aware of. |

atleast you noticed that it looks different. I've seen it posted as Lucilia on sites and never changed. Gymnocheta magna is similar but i think that it is restricted to peat bogs? I remember reading something about them last month. I just found one last month but i have yet to examine it. Anyway, there is a 99.9% chance that you have Gymnocheta viridis unless you found it at a peat bog. John and Nini. Naturalists not experts. |

There are at least two species. G. viridis is the common species. |

Thank you both. I can see how it's easily confused with Lucilia, I only noticed that something is wrong when I started comparing wings venations. I think it's pretty safe to write off as G. viridis, since I saw it in a village. There is a small river nearby, but peat bogs are nowhere to be seen. |
