I found this fly yesterday near Kéleshalom, central Hungary, in an area of consolidated sand dunes. I think it is Apodacra pulchra, based on the essentially dark/black legs. Can someone confirm or correct this ID? Thanks in advance! Regards, Henrik piros attached the following image: [287.22Kb] Edited by piros on 07-05-2018 14:54 |

Maybe Theo will visit. I am just getting started with Sarcophagidae. My Wife bought a copy of The Sarcophagidae of Fennoscandia and Denmark for me as a birthday gift. However, Protomiltogramma keys are not in the book because it is not present in Fennoscandia and Denmark. I found a pdf entitled Catalogue of the Sarcophagidae of the World, by Pape. The following info is listed: "Genus Protomiltogramma - Vibrissa well developed and longer than distance between vibrissal sockets. - Lower calypter large and domeshaped. - Male with setae latero-ventrally on abdominal sternite 5 curved backwards and upwards in the male." I think that the calypter is large and dome-shaped which supports Protomiltogramma. I see setae on sternite five. I do not know how to interpret the vibrissae yet without a specimen. overall, i think that this is Protomiltogramma and i believe that only Protomiltogramma fasciata is present in our region. You can see the weird curved bristles at ventral side of genitalia. It resembles Protomiltogramma fasciata, ID seems to be OK. Theo |
