Berlin - May 2018 - 6mm I've looked through the gallery and nothing seems to match. I guess Dufouria is black but the description doesn't match. I do not think it is a sarc. I'm not sure what it is at this point. I'm a little frustrated. Theo seems to be busy lately, so anyone have an idea? is it a Tachinid? Thank you for your time. johnes81 attached the following image: [35.37Kb] Edited by johnes81 on 10-05-2018 18:03 John and Nini. Naturalists not experts. |

I am happy that you help me i've been growing frustrated with this one. I have the specimen but i try to learn how to identify by photo. So I decided to investigate this species today. I have discovered that it is a Medina species. I see a tuft of hairs at the tip of the abdomen. see attached photo. My Wife and I suspect it to be Medina separata. I will try to examine it tomorrow. Thank You for helping solve the mystery Pierre-Yves johnes81 attached the following image: [41.68Kb] John and Nini. Hello Pierre-Yves, you have helped me enough my Friend. I was able to find the proper genus from your post. I truly appreciate you. I will examine it soon. I have been so busy lately but i intend to spend some days at the microscope now. I will dissect genitalia. Zeegers will be able to confirm after i post exam photos. I may be able to id using Tschorsnig but it is always nice to have a confirmation. Thank You Pierre-Yves. John and Nini. Naturalists not experts. |

after further examination, Medina separata is the best match based upon the tuft of hairs on the fifth sternite alone. Sadly, Tschorsnig does not document genitalia. Unless Zeegers disagrees with me, then by all means this is Medina separata.

calypter is partially brown, so descriptions should be ignored. i'd say it looks nicotine stained rather than brown.
