This female was ovipositing in lettuce-flowers in the kitchengarden Aug.5 -2016. In the middle part of Sweden. Size 6 mm.
Is it possible to tell genera or even species from this Pictures ?

Kind Regards

Botanophila .....maybe seneciella
Mostly known from Jacobaea vulgaris, so I have a little doubt finding this species in Lactuca sativa....it could also be B. gnava.
Always difficult with females.....they look all the same.

Thank you Johanna for giving me the right genera !
More than 50 Botanophila in the Swedish-list and after a look at their latin species-names, I can see many of them are found of Composite-flowers.

Best Regards
Patrik

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
