Found 28.01.18 dead at house, Tuebingen, Southern Germany.
Is this a Calliphora (perhaps C. subalpina)? If not, a brief explanation of the differentiating features is appreciated.
Thanks, Lars

Let's start with thr simplest solution: vicina.

All Calliphora are extremely similar. Rognes did a great job in describing the differences, I am not going to copy. In any case: you can only suggest another species if you are dead-sure it is not vicina, since 99.5% is vicina. Only in boreo-mountainous regions (like Norway) this is not true.

This one clearly is vicinaGrinarkened calypter and yellow basicosta.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
